I’m sorry that we have moronic GOP Congressmen and an even bigger moron president who want to tariff you over these fires.

u/ParisFood 3h ago

Especially since there are Cdn firefighters helping out in the U.S.

u/Mental_Medium3988 2h ago

fire fighting really knows no border, because fires know no border.

thank you to all the brave people fighting forest fires or directly supporting them like u/ryosuccc youre amazing people.

That stings. Canada and been Americas biggest Allie. And to be treated how we are by the current Administration, is shameful.

u/DukeOfGeek 32m ago

Attacking and destroying everything that we have spent decades building is what they do.

I hate that we aren't helping them. They always fucking help us.

u/Burggs_ 9h ago

Mexico sent fire fighters during the California fires despite the insane rhetoric against them.

u/CMDRTragicAllPro 9h ago

It’s what members of decent societies do for each other. The states are just proving again they aren’t a decent society.

u/Honest_Chipmunk_8563 6h ago

As an American living between Canada and Mexico, I think that most folks are trying to remember that our government doesn’t represent the population well at all. But it’s getting harder.

u/spaceman1055 6h ago

As a Canadian, Trump is a symptom of your sick society. If the American people aren't accountable for him then what the fuck are we doing?

u/superspeck 5h ago

It’s obvious that us Americans are dealing less with a western democracy than we are with an eastern oligarchy and we don’t have the tools to combat it.

u/geoken 1h ago

During all the recent stuff with the US soccer team, I realized how this sentiment seems less and less true.

There were so many people who reacted almost violently to being called maga or a Trump supporter…..but they immediately adopted all the hallmarks like whataboutism, doing mental gymnastics to support ‘their team’, descending into American exceptionalism, etc. These are people who strongly purported to not be Trump supporters.

It really made me feel that adage the Trump isn’t the problem, but the symptom. Maybe it was just a bad sampling.

→ More replies (1)

u/Stubborn_Shove 42m ago

Do you argue this all the time, or only while your preferred team isn't in the White House? Was it a great democracy two years ago, 12 years ago, etc, and then suddenly stopped being one when Trump was elected?

u/Stirams 5h ago

Oh man that narrative is soooooo boring

u/superspeck 5h ago

Sorry, it’s an heirloom. My great great grandparents left Europe for the same damn reason.

Honestly, with the stuff our media is feeding my neighbors, I can’t even talk to anyone. Also, it’s hard to keep a job when you’re pro-workers rights here. I mostly work for small companies these days because I get auto rejected at bigger companies once their ATS cross-references my name and address. After getting beat down this hard and without my propaganda-fed neighbors being willing to engage, exactly what should I be doing?

Unfortunately I don’t think we can disown him. America elected him twice. And he won the fucking popular vote after committing an act of sedition, trying to falsify votes in an election he lost, and being convicted of fucking rape.

We have to recognize that tens of millions of voting adults gleefully support this monster. They’re enthusiastic about him even now, even after the endless parade of shit he’s perpetrated and damage he’s caused. America has been rotting from the inside out for decades.

And frankly the inability of the opposition to present alternative leadership that can defeat Republicans is itself an indictment of our people. We are rudderless, we’ve morally and intellectually atrophied, we’ve allowed this rotten spirit to permeate every level of society and I just don’t see a way out of it. Something is deeply fucked up with our people and I don’t see it fixing itself.

u/JauntyGiraffe 5h ago

America is between Canada and Mexico so I'm guessing a lot of Americans live between Canada and Mexico

u/ooMEAToo 4h ago

Canada and Mexico are both American as in North America. It’s the United States “OF” America.

US firefighters have been sent to Canada this fire season. The US is also having a busy fire season preventing them from sending more. In 2023, when the US had a quieter fire season, over 2500 firefighters were deployed to Canada.

u/subsignalparadigm 6h ago

Yeah that ain't this time though. Trump wasn't president back then. Do the math for the present time.

u/aure__entuluva 6h ago

Our idiot president doesn't determine how our firefighters are deployed, at least for now.

I don't think it is fair to lump all Americans in together. For example, if California had the power, it would certainly help Canada.

u/CMDRTragicAllPro 8h ago

2/3rds is a majority remember. Anyways, California the state with 40m people to match Canada’s 40m people but spread over roughly 25x less land? The same California that has a gdp twice of all of Canada combined? That California?

If Canadians can figure a way to have the power to help you guys, I’m absolutely sure you can find the power to help us. But you don’t. At least not nearly as frequently as we try to help you guys.

u/RCer1986 7h ago

In this 2/3rds example are you lumping in the people who didn't vote at all? If so, totally fair. Also, finding ways to help the US right now isn't difficult as we don't have a functioning government. We need all of the help we can get.

u/that_can_eh_dian_guy 7h ago

Not OP but that's generally how we look at it. We lump the 1/3rd that voted for Trump and the ones who couldn't be bothered to come out to vote against him in the same group.

His first term we didn't because it was a unknown (sort of) quantity. But the second term is inexcusable.

We also do understand that there are people working for the better and try not to lump everyone together.

u/CMDRTragicAllPro 7h ago

Yup exactly this.

u/caffeineocrit 5h ago

Thank you for that. I voted, couldn't encourage enough people to do the same. Of course, you know they're complaining now.

I just dont like where things are and where they could be going. I thought about taking advantage of being able to get my dual citizenship with you guys

A Canadian chopper pilot died fighting fires last week… in Colorado

u/BeardedSkier 8h ago

Not only are you not going to help us, but you're going to tariff us harder.....

u/mike_james_alt 8h ago

You mean tax Americans, right?

u/BeardedSkier 8h ago

Both... We get to sell less goods to you because they've got more tariffs, and you get to pay more because you either continue to buy from us despite the tariffs (thank you!) or you get to pay more to domestic producers who jack their prices to match the higher tariffed Canadian produced goods

u/deceptinomonom 8h ago

^ This. Companies saw the prices after tariffs and decided they'd bump their prices up to capture extra margin out of the kindness of their hearts.

u/Wrong-Pension-4975 7h ago

I don't think DumbOld legally CAN order another tariff.

As a Canadian, is see this as the work of the fascists that are trying to drive a wedge between our countries, just like they are doing by using the Canadian woman arrested for "attacking" a MAGA girl as propaganda. The midterms are make or break for US democracy, good luck to you guys. We'll support the resistance any way we can if push comes to shove.

I almost cried when they started sending their planes down for the fires in California…and then some idiot(s) damaged one of their planes and put it out of service with a fucking drone. Like we literally don’t deserve jackshit.

u/Polymarchos 7h ago

In fairness, the US helped us (Canada) last summer when we had forest fires, so we can't say the US never helps us.

That said I've had to breathe American forest fire pollution, it sucks, but smoke doesn't stop at borders and there is nothing we can do short of clearcutting everything, which is dumb. Anyone demanding something be done about the smoke crossing borders illegally is also dumb.

u/finemustard 7h ago

Yup, it's just the nature of us both having massive countries with tons of forest. It's completely unrealistic to think that either of us could completely mitigate all of the fire risk in all of our forests. And if the U.S. can't do it with 10x our population, there's no way we can, either.

“We are holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their Forests, and Brush therein, and the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air,” Trump wrote.

He said he plans to call Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney later Friday “to find out what they are going to do about it.”

For fucks sake. Our house starts to burn down, and our neighbors run in to help. Their house starts to burn down, and we call them to demand they tell us what they are going to do about it because the smoke is starting to bother us.

u/aure__entuluva 7h ago

Good thing our idiot president isn't in charge of deploying our firefighters.

While several crews have been deployed, the truth is that the deployment to Canada isn't that large right because the US is also experiencing a busy fire season. By contrast in 2023, when the US had a quieter fire season, over 2500 firefighters and support personnel were deployed to Canada.

u/darybrain 6h ago

As your great all knowing leader as stated it is all their fault for not managing their forests. Everyone knows that you have to rake up the leaves. Nobody rakes up leaves like the US not even Finland in the winter who don't get any forest fires. It's just sad that Canada isn't willing to learn from such sage advice that is absolutely coming from a great place. Your leader is doing the favour but they won't accept it which is why they should be part of the US. It's the only thing that makes sense.

At least they might give me healthcare.

Kudos to you poor bastards carrying the torch for America That Was. If I were American I’d be one of you of course. I only meet Americans who like to leave America on vacation and do active things, and I have never met a single one of them who didn’t hate Trump even more than I do.

u/PLZ_PM_ME_URSecrets 7h ago

I cannot stand him, and if I wasn’t agnostic, I’d say he’s the anti-Christ, and I will die on the fact that the 2024 election was stolen. There is no way in hell he won every swing state after watching her campaigning vs him. I also campaigned for her on the phones in red state FL, and people were excited to vote for her. I sat in zoom after zoom of other women.

Elon helped rig the machines. My kids didn’t get their mail-in ballots until after the election, so they had to vote in person. They told on themselves before, and after the election. Some day it will come out because it’s all tied to Epstein.

u/TBJ12 6h ago

I said this in another post. Not a chance in hell he won every swing state and their is actually evidence of this unlike his 2020 election claims.

u/snasna102 9h ago

also remind them of Nicholas Dale. a helicopter pilot from Vancouver island who died in a helicopter crash while fighting forest fires in Colorado just 3 days ago. the next day lawmakers from Michigan wrote a letter to Canada telling us to do more to fight our forest fires because it annoys their tourists. 2 days after he died, Trump started to public threaten us with tariffs if we didnt stop our forest fires.

we should recall all of our equipment and personnel from the USA and redirect it to Canadian fires until the Americans learn to STFU. if americans want us to do more at home, we can do that by stop helping them with theirs.

his name was Nicholas Dale, he died as a Canadian forest fire fighter helping America, and then Americans threatened us for not fighting fires enough. fuck americans.

u/JPMoney81 8h ago

Why help when you can blame and tariff to distract from the Epstein files?

u/Kahzgul 8h ago

There are two:

- Trump and republicans are pieces of shit who refuse to help anyone other than themselves.

- America is dealing with several wildfires of its own right now and has over 17k firefighters deployed to more than 23 large wildfires. https://www.nifc.gov/nicc

Typically, we would still help our neighbor to the north, as we did in 2023 under the Biden admin. So I have to assume politics from the Orangecompoop are in play.

There’s been a few small crews sent up but for the most part the US is pretty overwhelmed fighting its own fires right now.

u/icemanspy007 8h ago

They are sending help. A few states sent a joint firefighting task force up there to help.

u/Shizcake 8h ago

Well they combined a bunch of DOI firefighters into a new agency with so little planning or thought the new agency is hemorrhaging it's best and brightest to other local fire agencies (state, county, etc).

On top of that the hiring executive orders delayed getting seasonal fire crews hired.

On top of that general federal morale is so low because of all the people (who support hiring, budget, etc for fire) have left due to the insane anti federal employee rhetoric by this admin and the right.

On top of that the fire strategy for this year is "full suppression" instead of letting it burn when appropriate, putting more pressure on an already depleted wildland firefighting force.

So I'm betting even if the agency was allowed to help (and to be fair, I've seen no such policy not allowing help) they're busy fighting our own fires with depleted resources (and giving their lives for it, three just died in Colorado), and knowing all the fire employees on the ground that I do every single one of them would bend over backwards to help Canada or Mexico if it were up to them

u/shit_typhoon 3h ago

Just a reminder to the USA... you aren't the best at *anything*. Except gun crime. Remember that. Love, Canada

u/BlueSkyMourning 8h ago

I hope we are sending them aid. Wildfires are terrifying and they're our neighbors. We should be there for them as they have sent help when we needed it. Even if they hadn't, it would still be the right thing to do.

Exactly. My heart is with the people of the Thunder Bay Area. We have fires in the Northwest every single Summer. Never once have any of our Canadian neighbors said anything negative about it. Our Canadian neighbors deserve better.

u/Disastrous_Ad4233 7h ago

Tbh, I am proud of helping the American people and not necessarily the American politicians.

u/DeedsF1 6h ago

Nice shot! We are always glad to help, even though some members of the current US administration like to bust our balls, we go way back.
This is a CL-415 from the province of Québec under the authority of SAG (Service Aérien Gouvernemental) they are great machines and cost a small fortune. Next model will be the CL-515 but has been facing production delay and is not expected to start until 2027-2028.

u/Fimbir 5h ago

I think it's going to be the DHC 515. Viking bought the rights to De Havilland Canada's designs from Bombardier and got the name with them. They already had the 415 but now it's all under one company.

I bought a "historic" DHC shirt when I visited Quebec in 2012 and I'm stoked that it's current again

u/DrAll3nGrant 5h ago

They help us put out our fires, and our president issues threats because they can't prevent smoke from theirs from crossing into our states. It's embarrassing.

u/Ya-Dikobraz 5h ago

That's a very nice plane. You can just park it in the water somewhere and fish from it. Then you can sleep in it. It's like plane camping.

u/bigdish101 5h ago

Looks like the plane from Tale Spin.

u/jax7570 4h ago

I am so sorry that the US is helping put your fires out like you do for us.. The Orange Turd is such an AH. All 3 times I never concerned voting for that dick. I broke up with my then finance because she is a MAGA.

Apropos of nothing in the recent news…

u/zyklon65 9h ago

Time to cancel that shit.

u/squeakycheetah 8h ago

Honestly we should be pulling every single one of our Canadian firefighting resources out of that country. Now and going forwards. We need it here anyways, if America wants to play isolationist games they can win isolationist prizes.

u/cuddles_the_destroye 6h ago

The US has sent firefighters to help out in canada for this incident even as most of our country also burns

Eeeexactly; and now we have Michigan republican complaining about the Canada fires…. And not doing shit!

Canada > USA

u/the_blackfish 5h ago

Thank you northern cousins from this Wisconsinite. You're all good in my eye.

u/PWL51 5h ago

That’s what good neighbours. They don’t threaten you because your smoke is crossing the border. If Shitler thinks he can control the wind then he should be reversing so the smoke blows back to Canada. Instead he’s proving once again to the world that he’s complete imbecile.

u/Lund4life 5h ago

I pressure washed one of the planes when I was a young teenager after they completed some firefighting as a summer job for extra cash! Such a cool memory

u/krayzeehearth 5h ago

Bring em home

u/JaceOnRice 5h ago

I mean as per the president we should be bringing all of our planes home so we don't get smoke on his house

u/Maxgirth 5h ago

Thanks for understanding that even amongst the dumbasses that are in support of the administration, there’s hardly such a thing as an American that doesn’t love or at least like Canada.

Canadians should absolutely send a message with actions. But hopefully those actions punish the administration and not our populace. Most of us, despite election appearances, did not vote for this fuckstick.

u/EvaSirkowski 4h ago

One time I was on a sail boat with my dad on a lake north of Quebec City. In the middle of the lake, suddenly no wind, dead on the water. When one of these starts circling the lake and lands (water lands?) 100 meters from us, refills and goes up again. Pretty scary.

When I lived in Santa Barbara, I saved this photo off one of the local news websites during a fire.

u/lazymanschair1701 1h ago

They do such incredible work, also looks like the plane from Disneys Tailspin

u/lmyrs 1h ago

I think that Canada should redeploy every water bomber and fire fighter currently in the US back to Canada since the fires there seem to be such a growing concern to the US people.

u/footfeed 8h ago

We don't see American water bombers coming to Canada to help out!

u/xX_420DemonLord69_Xx 6h ago

Because there’s no contract in place

This one specifically has a $41.25 million contract with Los Angeles county for a 5-year lease.

We have sent some teams to Canada, but we're on fucking fire too, Lil buddy.

A California politician recently asked Canada to start selling their wines again . After careful consideration I have an answer, F@CK NO!
