Now to wait and see how the WNBA thinks this is a bad thing.

They were all screaming that she sucks this season.

The only hate I see for CC is from other WNBA players, officials, and commissioner.

I've never seen a league hate their biggest star and best player like this in any other sport.

It honestly needs to be studied because she only brings benefits. Is it jealousy? Do they not like being overshadowed? Do they not like seeing CC being attributed for growing the WNBA? What is it?

156

u/WeeeeBaby_Seamus 4h ago

It's utterly bizarre to me. Clark brings in revenue. She brings in money, sells out arenas. The league makes more money, likely brings the average salary up. Instead the players act like jealous children who throw cheap shots. Nobody gave a shit about the league until she showed up. It's a league propped up by the NBA. The players seem hellbent on killing their golden goose. Gretzky had goons protecting him, so does Clark.

11

u/GoodPiexox 2h ago

The players

not just the players, NBA commish Silver had to beg Cathy Engelbert WNBA commish to suspend the player over the throat punching incident. NBA player have been paying their bills for over 30 years, they finally have a draw that could make the league self supporting and they want to run her out of the league.

41

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson 4h ago

Michael Jordan needed people too

53

u/WeeeeBaby_Seamus 3h ago

He did. But NBA players weren't doing what wnba players are doing to Clark. Jordan would get the occasional cheap shot. With Clark it's on a nightly basis.

16

u/TheMireAngel 1h ago

The fact their are endless edits of her getting clearly assaulted and they do nothing is revolting

6

u/robbiegoodwin 2h ago

Steph got that for awhile until draymond showed up lol.

10

u/mojomarc 2h ago

Depends if Jordan were playing the Pistons or not 😂

8

u/ValorMorghulis 2h ago

The knicks were very physical too.

1

u/Gobblewicket 1h ago

The Bulls drafted Charles fuckin Oakley to stop that kinda stuff. Then the NBA made rules changes to stop it as well. There was a reason Jordan didn't win the east in the 80s.

Rodman especially in the 2nd threepeat

14

u/Azmoten 3h ago

Rodman was such a gremlin of a basketball player fr. He came in really clutch, and he did it while looking and playing very strange. His history is fascinating.

6

u/funktion 1h ago

Rodman walked so Draymond could run

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Belexandor 1h ago

Rodman was a self aggrandizing punk who did almost nothing to protect Mike bc by that time, no one in the league was going to get away with touching him. Horace Grant (and before him Charles Oakley) actually did the job that people think Rodman was signed to do.

It’s not that bizarre. Racism is alive and well. We obviously know these players would not react this way if she was black. It’s racial envy of them seeing someone outside their race succeed.

5

u/jimbojangles1987 35m ago

This is 100% what it is and anyone denying it is trying way too hard to be willfully ignorant.

10

u/Elkburgher 3h ago

Reminds me of when Tim Tebow was popular that one year in the NFL

You had all these black qbs coming out talking about how unfair it was and they all were better than him but never got the chance to play in that running style but he did because of race

The WNNA commissioner and other players need to pull their heads in and leg Caitlin Clark flourish - she's bigger and more important to the popularity of that league than all the other players combined.

you should check the wnba subreddit then, last time it popped up on my feed as a subscriber it completely grossed me out to the point of unsubbing with how bad they were dunking on her

talk about killing your golden goose, it was on a post about her complaining about a foul but even when she's been getting absolutely beat up for ages now and nothing's been done so obviously she's fed up, her team needs more enforcers besides sophie

15

u/Necessary_Winter_808 3h ago

The majority of that sub are counter-culture individuals who don't actually know hoops. They hate that the wnba is becoming more mainstream.

You’re close, but not qwhite there

41

u/UnlikelyAssassin 4h ago

Do we really need to address the elephant in the room here? Let’s be real: does anyone seriously think this would be happening if she was black?

You ask the right questions. Answering them honestly would get a person banned.

36

u/El_Chairman_Dennis 5h ago

They wanted to build the WNBA as it's own separate sport with different strategies, that's why they argue against a shorter rim for women, it makes fire a different basketball strategy. Then CC showed up and is just playing like the best NBA players without the dunks and the WNBA is mad that she's successful by just copying the men

15

u/Gradschoolmaybe3 4h ago

Ya, women get the most hate from other women. That's how it be sometimes.

4

u/Hilazza 3h ago

Sometimes?

Most of the time on online discourse its a woman hating on another woman for some reason

3

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg 3h ago

There’s a bunch of fans that also hate her because they hate the new fans she’s brought.

New fans calling out the bullshit toxicity and shit refereeing that has been, up until now, accepted and even encouraged - and these weirdos that like the version of WNBA that nobody cares about nor makes any money get up in arms and butthurt

3

u/tsspartan 2h ago

She’s white and good

2

u/robbiegoodwin 2h ago

There’s a very vocal subsection of fans who hate her guts too. Check the subreddits. It makes no sense. The entire league and fans are trying to mean girl ice her out

4

u/Chief_H Washington State 4h ago

My guess is the WNBA has been around awhile with many good players, but had always struggled to get mainstream attention. Then CC came along and started getting way more attention than any player before her while still playing in the NCAA. There was some pushback arguing her success was due to the lower competition in college basketball, but her continued success in the WNBA really refutes that. Also, there's the unfortunate support she gets from racists by being white in a black dominated sport.

I think its a shame the WNBA doesn't help promote it's most popular player. There's potential to capitalize on her fame to promote the league, yet they'd rather sink their own ship than admit the impact she's had.

u/UnCFO 5h ago

Wasn't she coming back from a recent back injury or something that probably affected her play?

10

u/Kosher_dingus 4h ago

She had a pretty nasty groin injury at one point. For people that have never suffered an injury there, it’s one of the most aggravating and debilitating you can get

68

u/Foreskin_Mafia 6h ago

I believe the commissioner has already suspended her for this.

3

u/airborness 2h ago

I don't follow the wnba, but what's the thing that they have against CC?  I know early on, there were a lot of players who were down playing her, but I didn't realize it was still something that's going on and even the wnba is against her too?

2

u/Foreskin_Mafia 2h ago

I don't know for certain. I presume its a female thing so I'll never understand it. Maybe something to do with blood moons. Regardless CC dominates then and the league would be irrelevant without her.

48

u/KoreanSamgyupsal 5h ago

She bout to get beaten up by Angel Reese and suspended by the commissioner and when she returns, benched by her coach lol.

Idk why the League hates Clark.

49

u/oaklandorbrokeland 5h ago

You really don't know why? I don't even follow basketball and the racism against her is fucking obvious as night and day.

12

u/remacct 3h ago

They seem to have a problem with her being straight also

4

u/WeBackYeah 2h ago

If there was a bunch of straight white women treating a gay black woman the same way she has been there would be protests and marches.

4

u/oaklandorbrokeland 2h ago

but blacks can't be racist, haven't you heard? They are just salty that no one wants to watch the WNBA bc before Caitlin Clark there was really no reason to.

She’s the only reason I started watching sometimes. I grew up in Indiana so any good Indiana basketball is fine with me.

68

u/shapu St. Louis Cardinals 5h ago

You and millions of other people. The fact of the matter is that her Fame from college has translated to the wnba, and earned the league and its players collectively tens of millions of dollars that they wouldn't have earned otherwise.

The fact that both the league and her opponents are willing to torch all of that because of some personal grudges and perceived slights and weaknesses says a lot, and none of it good.

25

u/Wide_Course_5807 5h ago

It's because they are subsidized by the NBA. They do not need to turn a profit when they have deep pocket owners funding their league. They want you to believe they were relevant before her...which they were not (at least their salaries)

11

u/AnduwinHS 4h ago

"Personal grudges and perceived slights and weaknesses" = Racism. Her fellow players hate her because she is the first star in a predominantly black sport, as a white woman
