Yeah this is insane, they were huge helping us in LA last year. This is how we respond when they need help? Sadly this is surprising to no one

Yeah, i vote we start "The Dale Initiative" where every time Donald opens his fat fucking face, canada fires a tree at the Whitehouse like a missile.

We have Mexican firefighters come up and help against fires in California and the like as well.

75

u/rottenbox 11h ago

Forest fire fighters seems to go from country to country. I remember a few hundred South Africans coming a few years ago. Ours go help in the states when needed.

Almost like allies help eachother in times of need assuming the reciprocal will occur later.

The sad shit is this is only Trump the people of California are forever grateful for your help you guys are truly are the heroes of the Skies and we will always sing your Praises. You guys helped save so many people's homes what did the Big Orange idiot do? Well around where I live in central California he opened up a dam and released millions of gallons of water that never made it even a mile towards LA. Because of that last year we had the driest most least productive farming season. All the Trump supporting Farmers though had to grit their teeth and keep quiet because they knew they couldn't blame anybody but they're big orange God for squandering all their water.

49

u/Dankersaur 13h ago

It's also the troll, cretin, MAGATs in Lower Michigan that live under the bridge. They haven't seen anything compared to Northern Minnesota (where I live) or the UP (where I am from).

But a lot of the fires is also the US side of the Boundary Waters.

We all understand it and know Canada has helped us and continues to try and be brothers and sisters to us. I've worked a lot in Ontario, especially during this administration. I have gotten nothing but love and acceptance. And I love Canada.

MAGAt politicians are doing nothing but trying to reignite Trump's rhetoric towards Canada...when our own country is also on fire all over the place.

He cares more about other countries than he does his own. Unless it's vanity projects in DC. He's more concerned with a pool and fountains that 99.9% of Americans will never see than the national parks. Or feeding or housing or medical care. Or pretty much anything that would help Americans.

"helping us in LA anytime there has been wildfires or if it is needed anywhere in the country.*" Fixed it for you. Canada always sends the water bombers or ground help if needed.

Apologies in advance if that comes off negatively towards your comment since it is not the intention at all.

19

u/2coolcaterpillar 12h ago

None at all, Canada always helps us out when we deserve it and this is a disgrace.

11

u/Vin-Metal 11h ago

10

u/TheMoniker 11h ago edited 1h ago

trump's immediate response, while we still had firefighters helping with the California wildfires, was to threaten to annex our country multiple times.

Also, we still have folks down there helping with your fires and we just lost one of our pilots who was helping to battle a wildfire in Colorado.

Me, having a memory Googled when Dump just emptied a dam - “In early 2025, President Trump ordered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to abruptly release billions of gallons of water from two federal reservoirs in California’s Central Valley: Terminus Dam at Lake Kaweah and Schaefer Dam at Lake Success. Local officials and water experts criticized the move as poorly planned and reckless, noting it nearly caused downstream flooding and that the federal system does not connect to Los Angeles as Trump falsely claimed to justify the release.”

61

u/cantadmittoposting 8h ago

why does the president even have unilateral power to order such a thing without AT LEAST some significant evidence or compelling reason to believe there is a classified or urgent matter that requires such swift and drastic executive action?

That's absurd

He put a tariff on Canadian timber.

So if they cut the trees down and try to sell them, they're screwed. And if they don't cut the trees down and they burn, they're screwed.

328

u/JonWoo89 13h ago

A tariff on Canadian timber so he could open up our national forests for logging.

I’ve never hated anyone more than this man and the people behind and under him in my life.

54

u/whenitsTimeyoullknow 10h ago

Thank you for mentioning the people behind him. Trump is being sleep walked through most days towards policies his handlers are unfurling in front of him. For every deeply disturbing distraction he articulates, we need to also look at what he and his kith want to tear our eyes away from.

God I hate it.

19

u/SocksOnHands 10h ago

We don't need to be cutting the trees of national forests. The forestry industry doesn't have a shortage of trees - the problem is that shipping lumber in from China is somehow cheaper than cutting them down here.

Honestly though, I feel like the Confederacy never really left. There is a part of the country that is doing great in innovation and technology, leading the world in science. And then the other part of the country where people are religious and want to live in the 1500's where they can own people, but with the conveniences of the 21st century. The latter is holding up the advances that the other half is trying to make, and they keep making those kinds of people. I'm not saying we should join Canada, there are some things that I am proud of being an American. But it would be great if we can strive to be a bit closer to how they govern, and have more of a population that's not proud to be stupid.

83

u/Leptonshavenocolor 12h ago edited 5h ago

Growing up in the 80/90 and into the 2000s I genuinely thought we were improving, getting better, recycling, reusing, more inclusiveness, less fascism and racism… and now I just think back to my ignorance and how it’s all just bullshit.

49

u/Googlebright 11h ago

I'm Canadian and still remember the night Obama got elected. I was hanging out with a friend who was originally from America and we were talking about how cool it was that America had elected a Black man as President for the first time. She was so proud of her home country. We thought things were finally getting better.

Seems a bit silly in hindsight.

26

u/CombatTechSupport 11h ago

Unfortunately the combination of 9/11 and Obama getting elected have broken the country. 9/11 allowed the authoritarians in the States to begin building the blocks of a total surveillance state and start curtailing human rights. Obama's election allowed them to tap into the deep well of racism and fear still present in many older Americans, allowing them to attain electoral success. The rot was already there, arguably it's been there, festering, since the end of WW2, but those two events allowed it to finally bloom and move into the open.

It is actually fascinating to me how a country the scale of America is entirely controlled by whoever is in charge.

I mean, maybe that's a naive way of thinking but I always assumed the states largely ran themselves and the Pres was more of an 'upper management' kind of role.

Now I've learned that every last one of them is practically mindless and just thinks what the Pres thinks. If they have a good person in charge they're a great country full of friendly people. If they have a maniac in charge they're maniacs.

Americans are Lemmings. I would never have believed it without the massive shift from Obama->Trump

I'm starting to get some hope that a lot of his base is eroding based purely on Facebook comments.

A lot of the republicans running for office in MI are posting dumb shit about their "final warnings" to Canada and regurgitating Trump talking points. While those comment sections are usually full of Trump butthole lickers, they are now full of people actually calling out how dumb this rhetoric is and that we should be helping them contain the fires.

It's a small (and arguably naive) glimmer of hope, but I'm holding onto it.

"old man yells at smoke cloud"

But seriously, check out the satellite smoke later on this map - it's crazy. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/

That didn't justify his behavior at all. Nobody can control where smoke goes. The US has a lot of fires burning right now and is going no better than Canada at all. Also, Canada is one of the US' closest allies (see 911 and many wildfire help offers when America is burning). Every American should loudly distance themselves from that crazy man.

He calls soldiers who fought and died "suckers and losers." How that statement alone didn't cast him into obscurity and public shame is one of the main reasons I gave up on the US.

The entire male side of my father's family fought for the US; my great grandfather was Big Red One and put down enough Nazis to earn him a pile of medals. From Sicily to Berlin, including the Africa theatre and liberation of a concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.

I spend most days now surrounded by soldiers fighting and often dying for their country.

Those words are some of the most abhorrent that I could imagine a human saying.

The country is toast with this regime running it straight into the ashes of history.

Canada sends support just every year to assist with American wildfires.

We sent crews when Texas got snow and their grid failed. The Canadian red cross has been boots on the ground after a major disaster before FEMA on more than one occasion.

Trump is doing irreparable damage to a relationship which has largely benefitted Americans because time and time again, their own country fails them.

Canadian kindness is not infinite and the well is already running pretty dry these days.

So sure, bring on the tariffs. Damage the relationship further. Hurt your American businesses, cause further financial strain to the American people because instead of saying how can we help, this dumbass administration is mad at Canada for not controlling the weather.

61

u/PortalWombat 12h ago

Seriously. Y'all should pull all your people today.

76

u/worthing0101 10h ago

Canada sends support just every year to assist with American wildfires.

American here. Not just to help with wildfires either.

When 9/11 happened they commenced Operation Yellow Ribbon to help us clear our skies of air traffic as quickly as possible. A total of 224 flights carrying 30,000+ passengers and crew were diverted to Canadian airports and given assistance (food, housing, etc.).

https://www.tyndall.af.mil/News/Features/Display/Article/669731/canada-unsung-heroes-of-911/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Yellow_Ribbon

After hurricane Katrina Canada once again rushed to help us out. They sent personnel, naval and coast guard vessels, aid, etc. Not only did they also send money but they even accepted evacuees who needed a place to go.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina

There's a long history of Canada sending help when the US needs it and past presidents expressed their gratitude. Bush even went to Halifax in person to thank them for the help they provided after 9/11.

It's fucking shameful that Trump's response to their ongoing disaster is to threaten to bill them. He is a vile scumbag and so is anyone who agrees with his response to Canada.

He also doesn’t seem to remember Canada helping all the time with everything. Canada was receiving US flights in the aftermath of 9/11 too. Canada has always been one of our closest allies, not just geographically. And Trump is doing his best to burn that relationship to the ground.

93

u/apfejes 13h ago

It's already burned. Ripping up the signed Agreement and forcing Canada to renegotiate on the Gordie Howe bridge was pretty much the last straw. We're done.

12

u/Effective_Jello9731 13h ago

Having US flights landing at YVR was no small risk to us given the airport's central location in a densely populated area; there was definitely the potential for catastrophe had one of those planes been packed full of explosives. But considering the only other option was letting 34 planes run out of fuel over the Pacific Ocean I'd say we made the right call.

For what it’s worth, we Californians are deeply grateful for the aid we regularly receive from Canadians and other states.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump is upset because of our cooperation.

Edit: Trudeau last year: "California’s always had our back when we battle wildfires up north. Now, Canada’s got yours."

Cal Fire fucking rocks, and they've been part of the team sent north to help with other Canadian fires, and I couldn't be more proud of them.

It doesn't help, but I'm confident in saying the West Coast as a whole helps where we can.

I wish California would join Canada.

Primarily just to piss trump off.

I mean, on the one hand you absolutely should keep your folks home next time. I can't imagine why anyone would want to help the US with the state we're in right now.

But on the other hand, if California burns, nothing is going to happen to Trump, and he'll just use it to blame someone else for something. There is no way he'll take any kind of responsibility for it.

23

u/PickleballRee 13h ago

California's existence irritate Trump. We must keep it healthy at all costs.

Canada routinely helps us out with wildfires i think that covers any fucking debt this stupid fucker thinks they owe us over smoke they cant control.

We really are gonna end up completely isolated if this fucker and all of his ilk arent removed from power and tried for their crimes and the following administration going out of their way to repair relationships.

Edit: sorry for the overuse of fuck but this fucking fucker has really wore out his welcome.

Why don’t they help us fight the fires instead of just throwing fire on the problem? Tariffs aren’t going to help us fight fires anytime soon. I’ve been thinking the Canadian govt needs to spend a lot more on firefighting for a long time…after Jasper it became evident that this problem is going to continue to get worse and worse every year until there is no more forest. AI companies are salivating every time there’s a fire thinking…ooh, we can build more!

Asking why the Trump regime does anything instead of just realizing they're stupid and malicious and incompetent is an exercise in futility.

16

u/Gnom3y 13h ago

Realtalk: US Wildfire response is already overstretched because of Trump idiocy. They made the decision to fight every fire as hard as possible regardless of danger, which has directly resulted in Hotshot deaths on fires that likely would have burned themselves out without threatening structures or lives.

A smarter administration would better manage a limited resource like wildfire management. No one has ever accused the Trump Administration of being 'too smart'.

Look, if you want to give Canada shit, the first thing you gotta know is that wildfire suppression is a provincial responsibility here. Not a federal one. Natural resources and forest management fall under provincial jurisdiction, per our constitution.

There is lots to criticize, but every time I hear this from Americans whine about "Canadian govt" I immediately stop taking them seriously. They have very little to do with it. Not nothing, but not much either. It's like whining that Trump needs to do something about the property taxes in a township in Idaho.

It’s undercutting the American Forest Fire industry. All the poor union arsonists are getting fired from firing fires. The fact Canada is sending smoke for free is just proof they are trying to flood the asthma market.

Everyone knows Donald Trump is a pedophile. More attention needs to be given to the fact that his supporters are pedophiles too. Go look up how many J6ers were arrested for child molestation after getting pardoned.

You don't look past Trump's history of statements, accusations, and relationships unless you see something in there you like.

35

The areas burning are remote with no road access and limited float plane access. The best way to get around is by canoe and portage. Even then it is slow & labor intensive and that's when you're doing it for recreation (BWCA and Quetico are beautiful). Doing all that with wildland firefighting gear is even worse. It's a better use of time & money to let the fires burn while protecting structures and people from fire.

Also, our own wilderness is on fire in MN (BWCA).

U.S. President Donald Trump says the cost of pollution from wildfire smoke drifting south of the border “must” be added to the tariffs imposed on Canadian goods.

Then surely we should tax the sources of CO2 that are causing the climate change that is responsible for all these fires?

Right?

I don’t think these folks realize just how vast and sparsely populated the Canadian north is. Hard to fight a fire when there is zero infrastructure within what can be a couple hundred kilometre radius to support it.

Canada should do the same when the California/Oregon/Washington wildfire smoke gets carried north along the coast, and then cuts west to east across southern BC.

I lived in eastern Washington and the amount of smoke we get from California due to that exact weather pattern was insane. My friends up in BC told me that that same smoke would carry up into there every year.

So Trump should just sit down and STFU.
