u/Gogogrl 11h ago
Which wouldnât do a fucking thing anyway. Why did they latch onto âraking the forestsâ?!?
224
u/AdmiralSplinter 11h ago
It's a dumb-guy "solution" to a complicated problem. The funny part is that if they had been raking the California forests, musk would've called it "waste" (which it absolutely would be, can you imagine raking an entire national park?) and cut funding for it anyway. Just like screw worm prevention...

The plans is to rake all the forest clean. Then when the trees struggle from lack of nutrients
monsantosome corpo can get a big contract to fertilize all the forests. Of course all the trees will still die from the lack moisture in the soil as the top soil bakes in the sun.Edit: monsanto doesn't make fertilizer

Where would you rake it to? Out of the forests and into civilization? Or maybe a national forest sized garbage can to burn like you would with the autumn leaves from your lawn? Raking a forest is the solution someone gives if they have never been to a real forest, let alone barely leave their own resort estates.

Trump once heard someone talk about raking the forest floor to reduce the chances of fire. Something that is actually done in very small areas. And of course he decided that he know knows the secret to preventing wildfires.

Yeah, it is.
If a US firefighter died on our soil, weâd be talking about it. Weâd be mourning with the US.
Instead, our firefighters are actively assisting in the US right now, one has died without even a fucking note of thanks, there are Republican senators trying to sanction Canada, every social media platform is filled with USians pissing and moaning about our fires, and weâve got the Cheeto-in-Charge trying to rile dumbasses up further.
Itâs disrespectful and itâs infuriating. Iâve never heard a Canadian carry on like this when the winds carry smoke up to us from US fires. And it does happen. But, you think, âWell, thatâs a tragedy. I hope people are safe.â
Like how is this clown going to axe the US Forest Service and then have the gall to post shit like this about Canada? PMO.
ETA:
The Canadian was Nicholas Dale and he was a wildfire helicopter pilot out of British Columbia. He died July 12th firefighting in Colorado in the Gold Mountain Fire.
And to those in the US, mourn your own as well, Emily Barker (U.S. Forest Service), Nick Hutcherson (U.S. Forest Service), and Sydney Watson (U.S. Wildland Fire Service) were all killed on June 27th firefighting the Knowles Fire at the Utah/Colorado border.
In a time of divisiveness, remember these brave men and women that gave their lives to protect us all.

There were reports around here at that time of "sources" (I'm not arguing about reputability here) about Canadian officials discussing with their Mexican counterparts that they believed themselves to be in a better position and image with the US and each country had to do what was best for themselves so for plenty of Mexicans it was saw as beating Canada in their proposed game.
However I don't doubt there were lots of shenanigans around background that apply to both countries, it was the first Trump admin and everyone around the globe was thinking how to kiss the orange orangutan better to earn his favor.Â
It's true that the best way to approach the US is united, no shenanigans, and no misguided individualism. Thankfully everybody seems to have understood.Â

Not to mention the sheer size of our forests and their remoteness.
Even if we had the resources to do what Trump wants⌠most places where these huge fires happen are hundreds of kilometres from the nearest roads. Not sure how weâre supposed to get the equipment in let alone all the âdebrisâ out.
It would be like giving someone a mop bucket at the beach, telling him to clean up the water, and having a fit when he inevitably fails.

Like where theyâre actually are for in California itâs pretty much crazy mountainous train where you just simply arenât going to be able to go and clear all the dead wood even if you wanted to
I know you say Canada is gigantic has much of the same issues in terms of terrain and itâs just so big like how would you do that? How many what percentage of Canadians are we going to set about building roads to clean out anything that might burn
When in reality, there was the same amount of dead stuff, 30 years ago in both places, and there werenât nearly the same fires
Itâs almost like thereâs been a change maybe to the climate which the United States is the biggest contributor to historically

u/AcadianTraverse 12h ago
The sad truth is that the path to forest maintenance is...fire. We're now dealing with the effects of a century plus of forest management that was so vehemently preventing fires, it has allowed for the build up deadfall that would normally be taken care of via normal wildfire cycles or the types of large scale controlled burns indigenous land stewards participated in.
And the compounding effects of climate change, and we see much bigger fires and longer lasting fire seasons.

Trump emboldened the worst of the worst to come out of hiding and gave them a hateful person to rally around. He brought back the racist conservatives who stopped voting because they were bored with their candidates or assumed the "woke army" would just drown them out. He also pulled in dumb, foolish, bored and hateful libertarians who thought he'd be anti-establishment or loved the way he brazenly spoke and had no problem breaking typical baselines of respect and decency in politics.
This was only amplified when the Democrats gave us some of the lamest possible candidates, including Kamala without any say from the populace of their voters. This led to a lot of differing opinions from centrists all the way to leftists. She wasn't centrist enough for "centrists" (their way of saying they want an establishment Republican, even though that's basically what the Democrat party has become), Democrats were turned off by her being the forced candidate and leftists rallied against her because she was not hard enough on Israel, among other topics that could've easily gotten her a ton more votes from people who abstained or decided to go 3rd party. Just a total fumble.

Well, then it's time for Canadian citizens to start paying tarrifs on the global warming that the US exports. Trump didn't exit the Paris Climate Treaty and defund solar and wind projects for no reason. He's playing three-dimensional chess and is always three steps ahead of you. /s

- companies raise prices to cover tariffs (americans pay tariffs)
- courts decide tariffs are unconstitutional
- government issues tariff rebates to companies (americans pay tariffs again, with tax dollars)
- companies keep rebates, because free money
- companies keep higher prices, because profits!
conculsion: americans pay tariffs twice; get shafted with higher prices.

90% of our country is forest. What do they expect us to do? Walk the entire country picking up sticks?

u/engine-doors-club 14h ago
Yes, because he believes that debris on the forest floor is causing fires
Yes, he thinks that Mark Carney should go out with a shovel in a broom and sweep the floor of the forest
This is what happens when somebody isnât told no their entire life

Itâs reqlly typical of Trump on everything: he has long-standing opinions about facts that are basically childish and wrong. But no amount of education or correction by anyoneâespecially anyone who knows about the subject in questionâwill convince him otherwise.

Well, that's a good sign that Canada should stop all fire aid to America. They should then tariff America for polluting Canadian air by burning "clean" coal.

LA has a massive fire, we send a bunch of water bombers and fire fighters with their equipment to help. Canada gets a fire, we get threats, and hostile economic action? trump really is the gift that keeps on taking. Like cancer, or aids.

To a bad-faith actor like Trump, every disaster is nothing more than a chance to stoke anger at perceived enemies. The Carolina floods? Claim Biden's refusing to let FEMA help (even when he was doing everything he could.) When Trump's in charge, he'll withhold FEMA aid to natural disasters in states he's mad at. Fires in LA destroying whole neighborhoods of homes? Yell about how it's the fault of DEI because the LA mayor and fire chief were Black women. Now there's fires in Canada, and so Trump is going to take the opportunity to remind us that while he's launching an stupid wasteful awful illegal war in the Middle East, and alienating any allies left in Europe, he hasn't forgotten that he's also bent on destroying any good will we have with our neighboring nation, who's always been an ally and never done the US any great harm ever, but that won't stop Trump from stirring up bad blood anyway.

They say this the same week. a Canadian pilot was killed in the United States by American fighting American wildfires in Colorado.
the most disgusting human beings I have ever come across in my entire life are currently sitting in the US administration. Anybody who supports them should be considered a hostile enemy of Canada.

He couldn't stop California wildfires. How's a country with more forest and 1/10th the population going to do it?

u/Mister-Erect 12h ago
We Canadians have to help them with their wildfires every year đ
I mean how does Trump's staff not review these posts? Do they not stop him and say "Mmmmm Mr fuck face Trump? Canada aids us in life threatening situations every year especially our forest fires, threatening them is probably not a good idea".
One of Canadas firefighters died a few days ago fighting a natural fire in America on top of it đ¤Ś, how embarrassing. They didn't even acknowledge that death, if an American service member dies helping our country we ALWAYS have our government acknowledge it. I guess Republican governments acknowledge that sacrifice by threatening them đ¤ˇ

Also, that's an average based on some 2% of VERY high users and 98% of us can't afford to run out air conditioning in the summer cause our power bills have gone up 100% over 5-6 years (in Maryland).
I'm not emitting 1/50th of that and neither are any of my neighbors, friends or family.
So it's a misleading statistic even if true.

I think it's about time Canada stops sending water bombers to US forest fires.

Short of the US invading or outright banning us from going down I dont see that happening. Isn't in our personality, and it isnt individual Americans who are at fault here but theyre the ones who would suffer if we didnt help.

I think it was 2018 when a California gender reveal blocked out the sun where i live in Canada for 10 days. It's not like they don't have their own wild, fire problem.
16
u/theAlpacaLives 14h ago
The fire that started with fireworks at a gender reveal was in 2020; I know because I was living only a few miles from it at the time. It was also pretty far south in California, so I doubt that particular fire's smoke was reaching Canada, but at the same time it was going, there were also very large fires going in northern California, and several medium-size ones in Oregon and Washington, so smoke from those ones was probably getting into Canada. The 2020 west coast fire season was awful.
None of this changes the main point of your comment, that the US has a big problem with wildfires, and that Trump trying to turn fire season into a political argument, and make it out to be all Canada's fault, is both insulting and stupid.

Not to mention the fact that America is a top polluter and contributor to climate change, which they also deny, but also at the same time claim the dark government can control hurricanes... which their guy is currently head of which only makes sense until toy realize the words used in this post are thinly veiled threat of invasion and narratives to do so.

We have 900 million acres of forest in Canada how do you clean the underbrush like that? Wouldn't it be easier just to send some of your firefighters up to maybe help us put out the fires like we would do for you guys. Or should we just let California burn next time.

This opens up precedence for other countries to tariff the US due to environmental issues. Example, Europe based on this could tariff or limit trade due to green house gases the US puts into the air. Canada could do the same for the pollution placed into the waters in and around Alaska for the petroleum and resource extraction.
