It's a dumb-guy "solution" to a complicated problem. The funny part is that if they had been raking the California forests, musk would've called it "waste" (which it absolutely would be, can you imagine raking an entire national park?) and cut funding for it anyway. Just like screw worm prevention...
The plans is to rake all the forest clean. Then when the trees struggle from lack of nutrients monsanto some corpo can get a big contract to fertilize all the forests. Of course all the trees will still die from the lack moisture in the soil as the top soil bakes in the sun.
Where would you rake it to? Out of the forests and into civilization? Or maybe a national forest sized garbage can to burn like you would with the autumn leaves from your lawn? Raking a forest is the solution someone gives if they have never been to a real forest, let alone barely leave their own resort estates.
Trump once heard someone talk about raking the forest floor to reduce the chances of fire. Something that is actually done in very small areas. And of course he decided that he know knows the secret to preventing wildfires.
Itâs exactly the same as why he recommended bleach and sunshine for COVID, or dropping a nuclear bomb into a hurricane. Or even why he is so in love with tariffs.
He has the mind of a child and canât comprehend how things actually work.

Instead, our firefighters are actively assisting in the US right now, one has died without even a fucking note of thanks, there are Republican senators trying to sanction Canada, every social media platform is filled with USians pissing and moaning about our fires, and weâve got the Cheeto-in-Charge trying to rile dumbasses up further.
Itâs disrespectful and itâs infuriating. Iâve never heard a Canadian carry on like this when the winds carry smoke up to us from US fires. And it does happen. But, you think, âWell, thatâs a tragedy. I hope people are safe.â

The Canadian was Nicholas Dale and he was a wildfire helicopter pilot out of British Columbia. He died July 12th firefighting in Colorado in the Gold Mountain Fire.
And to those in the US, mourn your own as well, Emily Barker (U.S. Forest Service), Nick Hutcherson (U.S. Forest Service), and Sydney Watson (U.S. Wildland Fire Service) were all killed on June 27th firefighting the Knowles Fire at the Utah/Colorado border.

Luckily I live in a blue state in New England, so I basically never hear people saying anything bad about Canada. But if it ever comes up, I absolutely will.

About 10 years ago the Greater Vancouver area was dealing with a ton of smoke from the US. Air quality was announced every morning on the radio so people could respond accordingly. What was done? We sent firefighters; lots of firefighters. We didnât complain, we didnât lay blame, we helped.
American as well, Trump is a massive fuck twit. Fires happen every year regardless of which side of the boarder you're on. This fucker is nothing more than all time instigator. Canadian here: I love the fact that we are a kind enough country to send our water bombers to help the US. However, Iâd 100% be in favour of placing a moratorium on that, and sending them to stay in Australia, waiting for the next fire down there instead. If their government is going to be so fucking despicably ignorant and disrespectful of our fallen, I cannot possibly understand why weâd ever want to send more people down there to help them.

As a forester, nothing is more infuriating than listening to these morons try and talk forest management. They dont have a single inkling of a clue about the challenge this issue is. Republicans continue to claim there's no anthropogenic climate change when forest research scientist on both side of the border have been waving this red flag for at least 20 years.
I knew a USFS scientist in my town who was DOGE'd last year. He was fired because his research focused on carbon emissions. The exact topic? Canadian boreal wildland fires.
And we send them back as well because we have an agreement with each other to help when one or the other needs it. The President is just pandering to the stupidly entitled

There were reports around here at that time of "sources" (I'm not arguing about reputability here) about Canadian officials discussing with their Mexican counterparts that they believed themselves to be in a better position and image with the US and each country had to do what was best for themselves so for plenty of Mexicans it was saw as beating Canada in their proposed game.
However I don't doubt there were lots of shenanigans around background that apply to both countries, it was the first Trump admin and everyone around the globe was thinking how to kiss the orange orangutan better to earn his favor.Â

The sad truth is that the path to forest maintenance is...fire. We're now dealing with the effects of a century plus of forest management that was so vehemently preventing fires, it has allowed for the build up deadfall that would normally be taken care of via normal wildfire cycles or the types of large scale controlled burns indigenous land stewards participated in.
And the compounding effects of climate change, and we see much bigger fires and longer lasting fire seasons.
It's worse than that. He gets rid of smart people because they won't just do what he says.

Trump emboldened the worst of the worst to come out of hiding and gave them a hateful person to rally around. He brought back the racist conservatives who stopped voting because they were bored with their candidates or assumed the "woke army" would just drown them out. He also pulled in dumb, foolish, bored and hateful libertarians who thought he'd be anti-establishment or loved the way he brazenly spoke and had no problem breaking typical baselines of respect and decency in politics.
This was only amplified when the Democrats gave us some of the lamest possible candidates, including Kamala without any say from the populace of their voters. This led to a lot of differing opinions from centrists all the way to leftists. She wasn't centrist enough for "centrists" (their way of saying they want an establishment Republican, even though that's basically what the Democrat party has become), Democrats were turned off by her being the forced candidate and leftists rallied against her because she was not hard enough on Israel, among other topics that could've easily gotten her a ton more votes from people who abstained or decided to go 3rd party. Just a total fumble.
Yup. Anyone who paid a lick of attention to this clown, even long before his tiny brain had the idea of getting into politics, should've known this would be an absolute shit show where he swindles the public, lines his own pockets and the pockets of his wealthy "friends", forces out people who don't agree with him and so much more.

Also, that's an average based on some 2% of VERY high users and 98% of us can't afford to run out air conditioning in the summer cause our power bills have gone up 100% over 5-6 years (in Maryland).

I think it was 2018 when a California gender reveal blocked out the sun where i live in Canada for 10 days. It's not like they don't have their own wild, fire problem.
The fire that started with fireworks at a gender reveal was in 2020; I know because I was living only a few miles from it at the time. It was also pretty far south in California, so I doubt that particular fire's smoke was reaching Canada, but at the same time it was going, there were also very large fires going in northern California, and several medium-size ones in Oregon and Washington, so smoke from those ones was probably getting into Canada. The 2020 west coast fire season was awful.
None of this changes the main point of your comment, that the US has a big problem with wildfires, and that Trump trying to turn fire season into a political argument, and make it out to be all Canada's fault, is both insulting and stupid.

We have 900 million acres of forest in Canada how do you clean the underbrush like that? Wouldn't it be easier just to send some of your firefighters up to maybe help us put out the fires like we would do for you guys. Or should we just let California burn next time.
This opens up precedence for other countries to tariff the US due to environmental issues. Example, Europe based on this could tariff or limit trade due to green house gases the US puts into the air. Canada could do the same for the pollution placed into the waters in and around Alaska for the petroleum and resource extraction.
