I'm still on the fence of liking it or not. I may go for hair transplant surgery, but no matter what I do, I'm done with feeling like I no longer have control.

Edit: This blew up far more than expected. Thank you all for the overwhelmingly positive feedback. Self-image is a crazy thing. I'm still struggling to recognize the man in the mirror, but this helps.

Edit: omg I did not expect this to blow up 👀 I was pretty nervous about it but thank you all for the kind words, you're all amazing 😭 also (my dms are open ladies) 😅

Edit 2: Thanks for all the DMs from the homies & the ladies. I'm feeling a lot better about going through with it now. This truly is the best community on reddit!

I'm doing my best to respond to everyone that has reached out, I appreciate you all!

Bald Picture Council, did I make the right move?

I’m 42 and I didn’t want to end up with a bald mullethawk. I was getting a haircut today and was told that I’m thinning. I asked for a picture and she gave me what I saw as a sign. I’ve always laughed at that line in Game of Thrones, “who do you think you’re fooling with that topknot?” I definitely would not be fooling myself if I kept pulling it back into a ponytail. The longer I had the hair the more I thought about it. Now I feel free.

So here we are, embracing the future. Should I have waited?

I always knew that my hairloss was getting worse but when I saw picture #1 a couple of weeks ago I realised how bad it really was. Been lurking on this sub since then lol
Tried 3mm buzz on the weekend but today I shaved it all off. What does the council think?

EDIT: omg thank you all of you for the super positive feedback 🫶🏼 can't reply to everyone but I'm reading every single comment. You really made my evening!!

Bald Picture trichotillomania (ttm)

wondering if/how many people here have trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder), as i’ve never seen it mentioned in this subreddit.
i’ve had it since i was 9; i don’t think ive ever seen anyone with it as severe as me.

sometimes i can leave it alone and grow it back, but i always inevitably lose it again, so embracing the baldness within the last couple of years has been really my only option.

at this point ive been outwardly bald for three years rather than attempting to hide my spots. the pic with the longer hair(s) would’ve been 3 years ago.

i personally think having some stubble looks better on me. for reference the slick bald pic is from a while back, so i’ve gained some weight since then. cow print stubble was last week.

id love the council’s opinion:

slick bald, or cow print stubble??

Bald Picture Reluctant to change for a year, but I finally did it =]

Over the last year, I started losing my hair very quickly and I was reluctant to change. This created a problem with my self-esteem because long hair was 'my thing' for many years.

So I found this community and, after reading many posts, I decided to end this chapter and start a new one. I'm trying to decide what to do with my beard and glasses, but in general, I'm happy with the result.

Thank you guys! You are amazing ❤️

Bald Picture I’ve been hiding in hoods and beanies and shitty beards since I was 18, I’m trying out the bald in public for once.

Bald Picture Joined the club yesterday, thanks for giving me the confidence

Took 2 years to finally do it but I'm here to stay. Thanks for letting me join the club and giving me the confidence 🙌🏼

EDIT: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE KIND WORDS AND SUPPORT, THIS BLEW UP WAAY MORE THAN EXPECTED 😅

EDIT 2: Going to answer some of the FAQs here as replying to them all individually has become nuts 😅

"What did I do with it before I shaved it?" - I've always been a hat guy so I just lived in hats with a big sweepy side fringe, I never went anywhere without a hat.

"Why did it take you so long" - I've had long hair since I was 16 and I'm in my 30s now. It took a long time for me to accept that that part of my identity was going to change, I wasn't emotionally ready for it for a good year and a half.

"How do I feel now" - Honestly great. It's like a huge stress and weight has been lifted and I don't have to worry about if it looks ok, or if I can wear a hat to an event etc. massive relief and definitely going to improve my mental wellbeing.

I'm also going to shamelessly link my twitch channel because this has over 1.2m views and id be insane not to😅

Bald Picture Went for it (despite the calls to hold)

Thanks for the feedback on my “hold or shave” post. Got a lot of calls for hold, but was getting sick of messing with it.

Curious your thoughts. Keep it this way, grow it out, or go completely shaved? (And yes. Our bathroom needs a serious renovation.)

A note about my glasses:

I had darker (tortoise shell) glasses which I think helped define my face. Got these from Zenni and the virtual try-on made them look darker.

Bald Picture Oh, council, I think I mistepped

I come seeking the council's wisdom and guidance. Did I pull the trigger too early? And do I look re-gosh-darn-diculous now? Because, not going to lie, I feel it. 😬

UPDATE: Shouldn't be surprised, but you all are extraordinarily supportive here. I'm convinced: a good move, the facial hair needs some guidance, and my glasses frames have to change.

Thanks for the confidence boost and for bringing a smile to this guy's face. I'm beyond flattered - this is above and beyond what I'm accustomed to.

You heard that right. With early-onset male pattern baldness deciding to kick in, I might be one of the youngest members here. Depression, hormonal imbalances, my DHT spiking even further because of powerlifting, the vast majority of men in my family being bald... Anyway, since I've reached the point of no return, the fear of going bald has stopped being a fear for me.

(Yes, he knows I’m posting this)

He’s been getting shorter and shorter in cuts, and today he went for it! Before I started shaving his head, I had him scroll through this page and it made him feel really confident in the decision. Thank you all for being a part of this space and making it such a healthy one! 🫡💕

Signed,

Bald Picture 24 years living with alopecia universalis

Post image
8.4k Upvotes

I lost my hair and body hair when I was 7 years old and was diagnosed with alopecia totalis. It was very difficult for me; I've always been very vain, and losing my hair was quite painful. I also had to deal with bullying during childhood; there was always someone to mock or embarrass me by taking my scarf in front of everyone... I wore scarves for many years to hide my baldness, but one day, without thinking too much, I decided to live the way I am, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I feel free and very good the way I am. Nowadays, the only thing I miss is my eyelashes when I'm doing my makeup, haha.
